11 “Must-Ask” Questions for Every Employee

Thinking of changing jobs? Want to boost your current position on the corporate ladder? Take a few moments to perform a brief self-assessment. Gaining greater understanding of who you are and how you perform in the workplace can help you capitalize on strengths, improve weak areas and capture the position of your dreams.

While business leaders have only recently catapulted psychological profiling into a billion dollar industry, personal consultant and teacher Mark Bodnarczuk has long understood its value. For more than twenty years, Bodnarczuk has worked in the fields of organizational and leadership development. He helps people take control of their destiny—to identify who they really are and how to make the most of that personality in the workplace.

“Understanding that the human personality is a multiplicity of inner people, and then learning who those people are and what they want out of life, can be the single biggest factor in attaining psychological growth, developing satisfying relationships and discovering what your destiny is in life,” says Bodnarczuk.

His book, “Diving In: Discovering Who You Are in the Second Half of Life” (Elton-Wolf, $19.95 at www.divingin.com), teaches how to resolve inner conflicts, free-up psychological energy and redirect that energy to the tasks of living life and discovering who you really are. He also offers workshops and a free report, “Short Cuts to Psychological Growth,” to help those struggling with change.

Here Bodnarczuk shares 11 questions you should ask yourself to gain insight into the deeper dimensions of your “corporate” personality, to advance professionally and to claim your true destiny.

1. How well do I listen?

2. Do I value the views of others?

3. Do I take feedback well, or do I get defensive?

4. What are my blind spots?

5. Am I trustworthy, and do my coworkers trust me?

6. Do I have a sense of personal responsibility, or do I blame others?

7. Do I have control of my emotions (rage, anger, fear, sorrow)?

8. Can I express my feelings appropriately?

9. Do I respect my coworkers’ physical and psychological space?

10. What are my three biggest weaknesses and areas for improvement?

11. What are my three biggest strengths, and how can I capitalize on them?

Spend some time reflecting on your answers. You may identify areas you would like to change. Other areas you may decide to simply accept the way they are. Either way, taking time to dive into the depths of your personality and understand who you are and how you interact with others will help you move forward in your professional life and in your personal relationships.
“Remember, it’s never too late to discover who you really are and create the destiny you dream of,” says Bodnarczuk. All you need to do is dive in!
